In the spirit of Halloween, our wonderful and courageous leader, Jennifer, decided to unknowingly talk about something that I never thought we would discuss. This is another transparent moment for me, so let her rip!
All that was left was the bees and Candyman– I was afraid of the dark since I was a kid. Don’t judge me. If you grew up in the hood, gun shots everywhere, seeing someone get shot next to your grandmother’s house at night and also had an aunt who decided that it was a great idea to watch scary movies EVERY SINGLE NIGHT, you would be too! Yo, let’s talk real! I was already afraid of the dark. Places that you can’t see and a sister who thought it was wonderful to scare her sisters on a consistent basis. Couple that with 6’5” Candyman (Tony Todd) you will have a 8yr old who is afraid to sleep at night.
Candyman is started 1992 film written and directed by Bernard Rose and it was based on the short store calledThe Forbidden by Clive Barker, who was an executive producer on the movie. It’s based around fictional character Helen Lyle (Virginia Madsen) who eventual becomes friends with Anne-Marie McCoy (Vanessa Williams) when they research urban myths/conspiracies on the Northside of Chicago. She eventually finds what she is looking for and the conspiracies are very true.
Since then there have been two additional movies, Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh (1995), as well as, Candyman: Day of the Dead (1999). Recently it was revealed that there will be a release of these movies on Blu-ray. If you are wondering, I will NOT be a purchasing customer.
I am currently 34 years old, and while it has been many years since I have seen these movies, there is still something about a 6’5” man, with bees (which I hate!) coming out of his mouth that will FOREVER creep me out!
Here are some of the fun facts found on: www.mentalfloss.com about this movie franchise:
- Todd was stung 23 times!
Yes! The bees were NOT CGI!!! Which furthers my point. This dude is crazy, or at least that’s what my eight–year–old self is telling my 34–year–old self, RIGHT NOW!
- Also, according to the interview he did with TMZ, he got paid $1000.00 every time he was stung!
- The bees in his mouth were real!
I can’t even. I just can’t! I’m itching right now. SERIOUSLY!
There was an actual Candyman Killer!
There was a guy named: Dean Corll who killed 28 young boys in the city of Houston from the span of 1970-1973.
So, I feel that with all the information that I have provided you guys, my justification is totally reasonable! That Candyman cannot be trusted and I hope they don’t make a remake.
There is no way that any “sane” person would film with REAL LIFE bees, on their face for $1000.00 a pop and do that for 3 movies!
I was born and raised around, crack-heads, alcoholics and heroine-addicts my whole life and even they would come out of that additional and be like: NOPE, MY MOMMA DIDN’T RAISE NO FOOL!*mic-drop*
With all that being said, embrace your fear of the Candyman and the dark. There is nothing to be ashamed of. LOL.
