I think the world forgets that Taraji P. Henson is not an overnight success. I think the entire world forgets Baby Boy is almost a twenty year old movie. I think the world sleeps on just how talented she is.
We know the story of how the Around The Way Girl came to be. Taraji said she came to Hollywood with $700, her baby and a college degree. We know John Singleton hired her for Baby Boy and she hasn’t looked back. The fact she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button only further speaks to her talent.
The star is symbolic, it’s recognition and she is worthy of it. I remember how she celebrated Viola Davis and Regina King on the Emmys a few years ago. I remember thinking for as talented as she is, that her shine was overdue.
Taraji is more than Jody’s girlfriend. She’s more than Cookie Lyon. She’s more than the wounded, angry Black woman. She’s more than Proud Mary (that movie really doesn’t get enough shine). Taraji is amazing!
With all the projects she is doing, including the upcoming documentary on Emmett Till, Taraji is a Firestarter, and I’m here for her. Always.
This is only the beginning!
