Not all heroes wear capes! Some have locs and white coats! Meet Dr. Hadiyah-Nicole Green.

In my history, I dreamt of being a heart surgeon. I so badly thought I would be good at it, and thought that I would be amazing at it. The thing is, ironically enough, my heart really was in it. The natural gifts for writing outweighed any desire to commit or pursue medicine in any capacity. Yet, I still love science! I have always been a nerd, so to be alive in this time? To be alive when Black women are basically becoming the Avengers and saving the world? Oh, Sugarhoneybabychile! I couldn’t ask for a better thing.

First thing? Dr. Hadiyah-Nicole Green. Who is she? Her claim to fame is as follows:

Dr. Hadiyah-Nicole Green — a multi-disciplinary physicist and the second African American woman to graduate with a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham — has become the first to successfully cure cancer using laser-activated nanoparticles.

A Black woman, who is a doctor, has discovered a cure for cancer. THERE IS NO GREATER FLEX!

Save for this next one. With all the talk about the coronavirus and vaccinations, let me show you who is on the floor of this research:

Meet Dr. Kizzmekia Corbet. She is immunologist whom participated in the finding of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Say it with me now: Doctor. Kizz. Me. Kah. Core. Bet. DO NOT MESS HER NAME UP! .

The fact that Dr. Kizzmekia Corbet is an integral part of the medical solution to this pandemic? I won’t lie to you—-her involvement is one of the reasons why I decided to get the vaccine! The fact that Dr. Fauci even shouted her out, recognizing her brilliance? Yes, ma’am!

This cannot be overstated, or erased! Black women have been magical! And what is science except high functioning magic? Being alive to see this, in having my daughters see this? I am blown away! I am overjoyed, I am excited, and I am here for all of it.

Black girls are truly superheroes.
